John Bartlett and his descendants

Surname also spelt BARTLET on some early records.

These are most of the people I know about who are now deceased. The data I have includes more information about them, and about some of their descendants who are still living.

If you have knowledge of any of these people, their descendants, or their predecessors, I would love to hear from you.

Some members of the family lived in Emborough and Ston Easton at the time of the 1881 census.

It is probable that James (1717) built a bridge across the River Axe at his farm, and that the present "Bartletts Bridge" took its name when it was built in about 1863.

William Bartlett had a son William Albert Bartlett by Martha but they appear to have split up and William jnr was brought up by his paternal grandparents. William snr moved from Somerset to Yorkshire lodging with recently-widowed Annie Gullick and her children.  William and Annie had 4 children and married in 1940, presumably once his first wife died and he was free to do so. Clearly from the 1911 census record and children's proper names they represented themselves as a married couple and would simply 'omit' the Guillck name for their children - by no means an unusual thing to do. More about William and his family here.

Thomas Bartlett and Agnes Lye had moved to Penrhiwceiber, Glamorgan, South Wales by the 1901 census and they married there in 1902, and later lived in Penygreig. In the 1930's Thomas, Rose, Lil and Harold moved to Weybridge, Surrey.  May married and moved to Birmingham.
